Liz van Zutphen, Physiotherapist

Liz is a graduate of both Acadia and Dalhousie Universities. She is licensed by the Nova Scotia College of Physiotherapists and is a member of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association. She is the owner of Balance Physiotherapy and brings with her over 9 years of experience in physiotherapy practice.

She has completed post-graduate courses in manual therapy, acupuncture, spinal stabilization, athletic taping, functional capacity evaluations, McKenzie Therapy, and Neuroproprioceptive taping. Liz has also completed Level 1 Intramuscular Manual Therapy:Trigger Point Dry Needling. This treatment is common in Western Canada but relatively new to the Halifax area. It involves using acupuncture needles to alleviate trigger points (knots)in muscles.

Her experience includes working with the Canadian Military and in private physiotherapy clinics. Liz spends many hours advocating for the profession of physiotherapy through her volunteer work with the Nova Scotia Physiotherapy Association. She is treasurer of the Orthopaedic Section of the Nova Scotia Physiotherapy Association and assists in organizing continuing education courses for physiotherapists throughout Nova Scotia. Liz also sits as treasurer on the executive of the Private Practice Division of the NSPA. This committee increases public awareness about physiotherapy and advocates for physiotherapy to insurance companies and other stakeholders.

Liz believes in living an active lifestyle and always strives to encourage others likewise. She is an athletic person who enjoys basketball, running, swimming and weight training. As an athlete, she realizes that often times there is a finite balance between maintaining an active lifestyle and injury. Liz enjoys working as a physiotherapist and thrives at assisting her clients achieve their goals.
